Government Arts and Science College, Pappireddipatti

Government Arts and Science College, Pappireddipatti was first established in 2011 under the aegis of Periyar University where initially it existed and was recognised as Periyar University Constituent College of Arts and Science, Pappireddipatti (popularly known as PRUCAS) until 2021. The Tamil Nadu Government has undertaken the college/institution as Government Arts and Science College, Pappireddipatti on11th December 2020. In the initial years of its establishment, the college functioned with 5 Under Graduation courses namely B.A.Tamil, B.A.English, B.Com., B.Sc.Mathematics, and B.Sc.Computer Science. Until 2015, the college operated in the Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Pappireddipatti before transferring to the present location which is a kilometre away from the Pappireddipatti Bus stand. The college has been erected at the foothills of the Shevaroy hills amid surroundings very close to nature. The college began to be regulated as a full-fledged institution from August 2015, with a sprawling campus, scholarly experts of faculty members, well-equipped lab facilities, Library with more than 3000 books and sports equipments which are always kept open for easy access of the students almost everyday. B.Sc.Physics as a course was introduced as an additional department in 2016. The following year saw the implementation of Post Graduation Courses in the department of Tamil, English, and Mathematics. In 2020, two more courses were introduced namely B.A.Sociology and M.Sc.Computer Science. Another feather in the cap or milestone which the institution holds pride in is the transformation and recognition gained by the Department of Tamil as a Research Department in 2020. The college is the first of its kind to offer B.A.Sociology in the whole of Dharmapuri district. The institution also encourages the students to actively participate in Social Service activities by motivating them to join clubs and services like National Service Scheme(NSS), Red Ribbon Club (RRC) and Youth Red Club(YRC). This is the one and the only Government Arts and Science College in Pappireddipatti taluk, which enables socially, economically backward students’ access to higher education close to home, where earlier they had to travel to Erode, Salem and other neighbouring districts/location to acquire a degree either in Arts or Science stream.
